In the gallery of mem'ries there are pictures bright and fair, and I find that dear old Butler is the brightest one that's there. Alma mater, how we love thee, with a love that ne'er shall fade, and we feel we owe a debt to thee that never can be paid.

well, i just signed up for my first semester of classes at iowa!!! WOOOOOOOO!
they are:
Contemporary Problems in JournalismThis course analyzes and discusses issues in contemporary journalism, with an emphasis on the performance of the press, its role in shaping cultures and the problems facing journalists. Representative topics include media ownership and concentration, new and convergent media, information channels, content, flow, censorship, law and values. Readings include representative journalism, criticism and scholarly literature. Course is taught by D. McLeese. E305 Philip D. Adler Journalism and Mass Communication Building
and
Masters Advanced Reporting and Writing
Writers try to make sense out of the world. One of the key differences between creative nonfiction and journalism is that journalists are acutely aware of audience. Writing for the reader is at the forefront of how we go about telling stories. This course is designed to simulate the experience of a professional journalist. Toward that end, we'll dissect successful writing, as well as hone student skills in researching, interviewing, information-gathering, organization, and executing the story. We'll discuss selling your work, i.e., pitching stories and writing query letters to editors. Topics for stories can come from anywhere - as long as the subject vitally interests you and a sizeable audience of readers. The classroom will be the venue for animated story conferences during which students pitch their ideas for upcoming stories. Five stories of varying lengths will be required. The course is taught by Bloom.
I will need to sign up for one more class, but since I'm late in applying I have to get specially added to a closed class. The two I'm in are required for all journalism grad students - only 15 seats available so that means i'm only 1 of 15 who made it in! Booyah! anyway they're Tuesday and Wednesday nights which is really nice.
Also, I attached 2 pictures of heli in her new collar. doesn't she look tough!?!? :) (sorry the one is so big, i cant get it to be smaller without my computer restarting booo!)
